Book Covers/ Magazine

These projects were chosen because we did not do much of them in my classes. I really enjoyed the freedom that I had with the design and placement of the type on the back/ inside. Book covers to me are a very sophisticated look and putting this all together really just pushed me to make it look like a book you would see in aa library, on that topic.

The History of Jazz

This book cover illustration as done fully in Adobe Illustrator until it was time for the type. At that time, it took it into Adobe InDesign. For the cover, I wanted to go with the Roaring 20s style. I loved the style of having lights going onto the stage, showing the chaotic activity that went on. The back of the book cover was meant to be more plain and sophisticated compared. to the front. I brought back the top piece that is found on the front, but left the rest of the back in black.

A Rumor of War

This book cover has a lot of (Adobe) Photoshop work put into it. I used the images that were given to me from my instructor but also found the image of the pictures to combine them with. Once I was done with the photoshop, I took it into Adobe InDesign, where I continued by finishing the type design. I wanted to make a collage of the war images as if they were postcards to loved ones back home, with an old rustic look.

If I Were President…

This magazine layout has a lot of (Adobe) Illustrator work put into it. We were given the topic of whatever we thought we would want to change if we ever became president. I chose the topic of military and the issues that they face day to day. We were to write the first part of the type with our point and what we wanted to accomplish, then the rest of the text was placement text.

Firebird-Children’s Book

This book was designed for a tale that was already made. We were told that we had to choose one passage from the story and design a composition to match with it. I used Adobe Illustrator to compose the outlines of all my shapes, then went in and dropped my images. I wanted to create the photo collage type of style. I decided to use the gold accent colors within the flames because it is leading the viewer’s eyes from the big bird in the direction of the small apple. These are the two major objects in the story so I thought it was important to give that stand out texture/ color.
